2019 Illinois Masters Swim Team State Champions

In April 2019, the Swedish Fish won the Illinois State Masters Swim meet - first place trophy. Ninety-five of our swimmers participated over 3 days of competition and our team included several age group champions.

The Little Team that Could

Nine years ago three swimmers from Galter attended the Illinois State Meet as the first Swedish Fish swim team. This little team grew! More than 100 people currently swim with the Swedish Fish. The USMS database records the team’s first sanctioned competition in February 2010. Six [6] swimmers competed at the High Ridge Masters Meet. The first State Championship Meet we participated was April of that same year: 2 swimmers competed earning 9 points in total and garnering 46th place [out of 53 teams]. We’d begun to make our mark and with each year the team has grown. Nine years later, the Swedish Fish took 1st place in the large team category at the 2019 Illinois State Masters Championship!

We also love to swim in the Big Shoulders Open Water swim and other open water swims. Some of us swim weekly in Lake Michigan in warmer months.
